RUNWAY: Louis Vuitton SS15
Every season, Louis Vuitton's men's style director Kim Jones takes us on a journey. Previously we've been taken to the major cities of the world like Paris and Tokyo, as well as to Patagonia in South America and today was no different. It was off to Jaipur, India, commonly known as the Pink City, notice the backdrop that was inspired from the pink stones that give Jaipur its nickname. The collection's tailoring preferred boxy double breasted suits, like one might seen on an Imperialist in India many decades ago. However, sportswear was the real story here. Since starting at Louis Vuitton, Jones has invoked the letter "V" to symbolize Vuitton and this was seen on polos with a color blocked V or an X marking this top as something to be treasured (no worries, the "V" was on the back of those shirts). They were also seen on colorful zig zag patterns, which could conceivably be a play on the house's iconic monogram but instead of hearts and pendants, it was a repeating V. Meanwhile the blue-collar inspired "flight suits" looked more akin to the uniforms worn by 1950s petro employees, and were definitely the big outliers in this collection. Never the less, there was a healthy dose of luxe that included a multitude of bags, including a calf leather guitar case, and other accessories to pad the pockets of Vuitton's parent company.
