RUNWAY: Balenciaga SS17
Demna Gvasalia's appointment to
Balenciaga has been quite polarizing. Some find his inexperience not worthy of the lofty Balenciaga house and others think his aesthetics, or that of his label Vetements, is too much in contrast with what Cristobal proffered. While others love what he does. For his debut menswear collection, and Balenciaga's first ever men's runway show, he continued to polarize the audience with a top-heavy collection that pantomimed the broad shoulders of the 80s, or that of American footballers in their uniforms. Meanwhile, bottoms were voluminous and boxy. The collection hit its apex with the final few looks, much more austere with peeks of lace here and there, as well as some ornate patterns that looked rich and luxurious.
