RUNWAY: Ann Demeulemeester FW16

Since the departure of the namesake designer, Belgian label Ann Demeulemeester has edged away from the dark romantic vision of its visionary founder. Fall/Winter 2016's collection reaffirms the lighter touch the label has embraced. The result is pale in comparison to what was offered before and the type of revolutionary changes that brought Gucci back into the limelight. The shawl collars, the fringe necklaces and the smattering of jewel tones were all well and good but Alessandro Michele has proved you can make a radical change in what a brand was known for and redefine it in one collection. It's time to pull the Band-Aid off Ann Demeulemeester and either embrace a similar radical change or none at all.
