RUNWAY: Alexander McQueen SS12
Still high from her highly lauded dress for
Kate Middleton, Sarah Burton sent a gaggle of moody models down the concrete runway for the
Alexander McQueen SS12 collection. The collection was bedded on McQueen's Savile Row training, with jackets so well tailored you would think that the designer himself cut them. Burton's vision of the McQueen man is different than that of the elegantly sinister McQueen man that "Lee" McQueen envisioned him to be. (And it should be) However, the two visions do meet when we see the menacing nature of the McQueen man rearing its head in a few pieces like a flaming suit and a floral 3/4 sleeve coat worn by
Jaco Van Den Hoven. We think that the more time Burton has to define herself as Creative Director of McQueen menswear and who she thinks this man is, the more succinct the collections will be. But for now we think the expertise and vision are there, it just needs more time to flourish.
